On Vikings web site it states that transfers are included when you book air with Viking. We booked air and paid $400 for a deviation (4 passengers) to stay 1 night in Marseilles on our own by the airport before doing the transfer to Avignon. Well 6 days before the trip we discover that we have to get our own transfers to board the ship 1 hour away Marseilles to Avignon. So our options are cab $200 or train $160 but that is not really the point... Read more

My husband and I are scheduled to cruise with Viking in September. We were just notified that we could not make reservations for excursions (beware - there is a pecking order predicated on your cabin type). Immediately after receiving notice, we went to make reservations and found that so many were already SOLD OUT. Even tours that Viking had advertised as INCLUDED are SOLD OUT. Viking handled out transportation to Amsterdam. They flew us from Philadelphia to Atlanta then to Amsterdam. On arriving in Amsterdam we had to push our luggage quite a distance to the waiting van. After arriving at the hotel we were told we had to wait 5 hours till our room would be ready. By the time our room was ready we had been up for 24 1/2 hours. We purchased tickets 2 years in advance and a year before the Viking Star was built for our party of 8, 4 cabins total. We requested adjoining Junior suites. What we received were two handicapped suites lacking both a second TV and sitting area, nor were the suites adjoining. We have cruised 5 times on Viking. We made a booking for 14 months out with friends to travel with. Friends had an issue with the date and had to cancel. We also cancelled ours... This is the problem. #1 they retain 20% of the deposit and then market that the 80% will be refunded in 30 days. We have cruised 6 times on Oceania and any refunds for anything takes 48 hours to hit the CC. #2 - Viking expects full payment 12 months from date... Read more

We are also on this trip. We strongly feel that we were miss led to think that it is going to be sailing vacation when in realty it was land trip. Well, if we wanted land trip we do not need Viking for that. We could book our trip differently therefor save lots of money. I am currently on a Viking cruise down the Rhone. In four days we have sailed a total of 2 hours, which I had to get up at 5:00am to experience. Tomorrow we are being bussed and forced to take a train excursion that we don't want to do so that they can move is to another shop. We took a Viking cruise on the IDUN ship on 3/16/ to 3/27. 2016. Enjoyed it very much. Staff and all Viking affiliates were extremely helpful curtious and all excursions were well planned. Food was delicious and a wide variety! Loved all the excursions and quiet boxes you used to listen to guides on tours. It was cold in March but we were warmly dressed. Beautiful ship and Csptain. Terrible company that will give you no credit even with travel insurance even if you cancel in plenty of time for them to fill your spot. Heartless. My mom was diagnosed with late stage cancer and I was told I would get a refund or credit as long as I cancelled. Mind you be bought travel insurance through the people they recommend. Well it was all lies. Lost 6K with them! Tracked insurance won't pay because she had pneumonia a few weeks prior... Read more

Do not expect a summer vacation on Viking. Don't be misled by the commercials. Read the fine print - Viking is well aware of river levels but do not offer first rate alternatives - just the excuse - it's out of our control. Read the online complaints - they hold the truth. Viking Danube River Cruise (July 2015) consisted of hours long bus rides on subcontracted buses - NOT the Mercedes-Benz class buses with spacious leather seats and onboard... Read more
